Prospect Profile: Scottie Reynolds
We continue our series with a profile of Villanova guard Scottie Reynolds.
Scottie Reynolds spent four years as an elite scorer in the extremely competitive Big East. Now, while some have their doubts that he can translate his dominant collegiate game to the NBA, all he is looking for is an opportunity to show that he has what it takes.
The star Villanova guard had an outstanding senior campaign, averaging 18.2 points, 3.3 assists, 2.7 boards and 1.5 steals for the Wildcats. An All-Big East First Team selection, he was also named a First Team All American by the Associate Press, USBW and NABC. Reynolds ended his four-year career tied for most games played at Villanova (139) and finished as the second highest all-time scorer in school history with 2,222 points and sixth in assists with 482 dimes.
An intelligent player who plays an aggressive brand of basketball, Reynolds can shoot the daylights out of the ball. With defenders forced to respect his deep range, he is able to drive hard to the hoop, finishing hard at the rim and getting his opponents into foul trouble. He is always a threat to light up a team for 30 or 40 points as his punishing style wears opponents down, especially in the fourth quarter when they can’t keep up with his quick, crafty play.
Reynolds is a very mature young man who plays with a ton of heart and can be expected to contribute from day one. While his upside may not be as big as others in the draft, his ability to suit up right away and score immediately should hopefully go a long way towards his dream of making it in the NBA.
